OUR VISION: A lean operation with minimal overhead and maximal reimbursement to the working physicians.

OUR MISSION: To provide top quality, state of the art Emergency Services to our community and to Valley Baptist Medical Center.

OUR STRUCTURE: We are a Limited Liability Partnership. Our leadership and management are drawn entirely from among our working partners. Each partner has a single vote.

As a new hire, you have independent contractor status. Should you prefer this status, there is no limitation to the duration of your tenure as an independent contractor. Some of the benefits of working with Valley Emergency Physicians are noted below.

  1. Compensation will include a $140/hr guarantee and a bonus based on a percent of the capital RVU’s you generate for the practice. Due to chart completion and account maturation issues, there is a several month delay between the month worked and the RVU incentive bonus. Payday is the 20th of the month after the month worked.
  2. There is no plan for a signing bonus as we wish to maximize reimbursements for work done. Some assistance with the costs of transition may be available.
  3. Malpractice for all physicians will be paid for by VEP, through TMLT when possible. Limits are $200,000/$600,000. You need to belong to TMA to be eligible. All personal insurance, retirement, and business expenses are the individual doctor’s responsibility.
  4. With the exception of malpractice and the 401K plan for partners, benefits are the responsibility of the individual physician’s in line with the philosophy of the group to minimize overhead and provide freedom of choice to our physicians.
  5. Individual contractors who are interested in partnership become eligible after 1 year of full time (an average of 120 clinical hours/month) work with VEP. Transition to partner is subject to a partnership vote. Potential partners will have quarterly reviews to assess mutual satisfaction.
  6. Benefits of partnership include a vote in the business of the Partnership and potential for leadership opportunities within the group. Partners have the option to participate in the group retirement plan. Partners receive increased incentive benefits and have the potential for reimbursement for non-clinical contributions to the group and community.
  7. New partners agree to a 2 year full time commitment to the Partnership. If they choose to stay on after 2 years, there is an ongoing commitment to120 clinical hours/month for a period of 5 years. After 5 years, the monthly commitment may be adjusted down according to the needs of the partnership and your desires. On becoming a partner, you assume equal obligation for debts and losses of the partnership with the other partners, but at this time the partnership carries no debt.
  8. Leadership within the Partnership is consolidated in the Management Committee, composed of 3 elected directors: Medical Director, Financial Director and the Operations Director. Day to day issues are decided by the Management Committee but any larger issues are addressed by the Partners, with each Partner having an equal vote. These types of issues include changes in staffing, and distribution of bonuses. Any partner may make a proposal to be considered and voted on by the group. The number of partners necessary to pass a given proposal depends on a decision grid with a greater number of partners voting in favor for larger issues or issues of greater financial impact.
  9. We hope for your participation in the business of VEP, within reason, as requested by the management committee. All VEP physicians contribute to improving the quality of our organization and our clinical practice. Innovative suggestions are welcome from all physicians.

Valley Emergency Physicians is a very stable group. Many of us, including some of our contractors, have been at Valley Baptist for 10 years of more. We enjoy an excellent relationship with Valley Baptist Health System and see opportunity for our group to expand as the hospital system grows. We have the benefit of rapid access to a 24/7 Cath Lab and a strong Trauma Team and Stroke Team. Our Radiology Department and admitting physicians are very supportive. Our community is easy to live in and is located near the Gulf Coast and Mexico.

Please feel free to contact Julie Nathan, MD, Director of Operations at ryegras1@rgv.rr.com or our Medical Director, Michael Mohun, MD at michael.mohun@valleybaptist.net or call (956) 380-5007 for further information. We will be happy to provide you with contacts for our other physicians for additional perspectives.
